A tough exterior for outdoor life
The outer layer is 100% wool from Romney Marsh sheep at 28.5 micron. This is much tougher than merino and less prone to both piling and tearing. Perfect for an outdoorsman.

Inner-layer of merino & possum
We are the only UK sellers of wool jumpers with merino and possum double-stitched to create a soft inner lining. The possum are invasive to New Zealand number 5,000,000, and are culled to protect the native birds. Their fur is exceptionally soft and comparably warm to polar bear fur. This is not a lining, but rather sewn into the wool jumper to make the inside soft and the outside tough. It also creates a much tighter weave that keeps the cold out and helps the jumper hold its shape.

Made in New Zealand, inspired by the coast
The traditional fisherman's weave originates from fishing communities and was designed to keep out the cold. The early settlers in New Zealand favoured it for farming in the mountains, and today NZ has by far the best hand-made knitting mills in the world.

Smart crew neck, relaxed fit
The simple crew neck design creates a more structured look with a nod to formality. The body is relaxed fit. The jumper in this photo is years old to show long term appearance.

A Subtle Fisherman's Rib Stitch
We use the traditional fisherman's rib stitch, only with less indentation. This creates more subtle lines, making the jumper more versatile for a range of occasions.

Holds its shape over years
All wool garments will stretch - no matter the quality. However, our dual-stitch jumpers hold their shape better than pure-wool, because the inner layer of merino, possum and 15% polyster provides additional structure and limits stretch.

No VAT cost
We're a small Cornish business, not VAT registered in 2025 — meaning you save 20% automatically.
-
No ad spend
We only grow through word-of-mouth, so we don’t inflate prices to cover marketing costs. For context, to get one premium jumper sale through Google ads, shops pay an average of £15-30. This will be reflected in your product price. Not with H.G & Sons.
-
No discounts, fixed low prices
We do not offer discounts, as this would involve increasing prices when not on sale. Our margins are around 25-30% and do not allow for discounts.
-
No staff costs in your price
Your order will be hand packed and shipped by Reuben, H.G's great grandson, in the same town we've always been in. This is an extremely lean operation. Staff costs are minimal compared to mainstream outlets.
